Four GIGA projects supported by the WELBIO Investigator Program
The WEL Research Institute is an interuniversity research institute that supports strategic programs within the five universities of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. It comprises two complementary departments: WELBIO, dedicated to life sciences with a focus on health impact, and WELT, centered on engineering, chemistry, and physics, addressing the challenges of sustainable transition.

hrough WELBIO funding, Wallonia provides researchers at the WEL Research Institute with significant resources over several years to develop ambitious projects in the life sciences, while promoting the translation of results into medical, pharmaceutical, and veterinary biotechnological applications.
Following the latest WELBIO call for proposals, nearly one-third of the program’s awardees (4 out of 13) are from our research center—a notable achievement that reflects the quality of the submitted projects, the excellence of the teams, and the integration of commercialization objectives. These projects will strengthen the research momentum and help drive new advances, while integrating commercialization prospects in healthcare from the very outset.
